Epoxy Garage Floor Coating in Central Florida
A beautiful garage floor that's easier to clean, with a finish chosen for your space.
Free, no-obligation estimate — the form takes under a minute.
This page focuses on the Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield garage floor finish: a visible colored epoxy base, with optional lightly scattered decorative chips. It is different from premium full-broadcast floors where flakes cover the entire surface.
See original project photos and a before-and-after comparison, then explore gray and tan finish concepts. We assess the slab, discuss cracks or moisture concerns, and confirm the exact product and preparation needed before application. Color selector images and the layer cutaway remain conceptual illustrations.

Swatches are approximate, not exact product color matches. Confirm the selected tint with a physical sample, since lighting and printing affect the color.

More than a coat of paint
How EpoxyShield epoxy coats concrete
For this finish, the colored epoxy is the main surface you see. Decorative chips are optional accents, not a full blanket of flakes. A compatible clear finish is optional, depending on the selected product.

- 04
Clear finish · optional
A compatible clear coating may be added when specified for the selected EpoxyShield product. It is not a required layer in every kit; compatibility and recoat instructions must be checked.
- 03
Light decorative chips · optional
Chips are scattered into the wet epoxy for small accents. The gray or tan base remains visible, unlike a full-broadcast system with complete flake coverage.
- 02
Colored epoxy coating
The EpoxyShield garage floor reference is a two-part epoxy coating. Its colored base creates the main look of the floor, with or without decorative chips.
- 01
Clean, prepared concrete
The concrete must be sound and suitably prepared. Oil, loose coatings, cracks and moisture concerns need evaluation before application; prep follows the exact product instructions.
The work beneath the finish
A lasting finish starts with preparation
Even a beautiful coating can lose adhesion if the concrete is contaminated, too damp, or poorly prepared. In Central Florida, checking the slab and discussing moisture is an important part of planning your garage project.
- 01
Evaluate the floor
Review the slab condition, existing coatings, oil stains, visible cracks, and moisture concerns. Your floor's condition helps determine the right system.
- 02
Prepare & repair
Coatings need a clean, sound, correctly profiled surface. Cleaning, degreasing, profiling and suitable repairs follow the exact EpoxyShield product instructions. Etching or mechanical preparation depends on the surface and selected product.
- 03
Build the finish
Mix and apply the selected epoxy as directed, scatter light chips if chosen, and add a compatible clear finish only if specified. Coverage, working time and recoat windows depend on the exact product.
- 04
Cure before use
Walking, moving storage back, and parking may have different wait times. Follow the project-specific instructions rather than a universal one-day promise.

Everyday care
Keep your garage floor looking its best
A coated surface can make routine cleanup easier, but it still needs care. Follow the cleaning instructions for your installed system, especially during the initial cure.
- Sweep grit and debris regularly to reduce surface abrasion.
- Wipe up oil and spills promptly; use a cleaner approved for the coating.
- Avoid dragging heavy storage or sharp objects across the floor.
- Discuss traction needs before installation: coated floors can be slippery when wet.
- Check product suitability for sunlight exposure; not every epoxy system is intended for outdoor use.

Good to know
Garage floor questions, answered.
How long does the job take?
The timeline depends on the slab, preparation needed, coating system, and curing requirements. We'll discuss a project-specific schedule with your estimate.
When can I park on it again?
The safe return-to-service time depends on the selected system and conditions on site. We'll share the product-specific guidance before work begins.
Can you coat over an existing coating?
It depends on the existing coating's adhesion and condition. We assess the surface before recommending removal or another preparation approach.
Will cracks show through?
We assess visible cracks during the estimate and discuss repair options. Some movement or structural cracking may remain visible or recur.
What's the difference between solid color and light decorative chips?
Solid color leaves the epoxy base plain. Light decorative chips add scattered accents while the gray or tan base remains visible. This is not a full-broadcast finish with 100% flake coverage.
Can you help apply an EpoxyShield garage floor coating?
Share your floor photos and preferred finish in the estimate request. We assess preparation, repairs and moisture concerns, then confirm the exact EpoxyShield product and application scope. Using a kit does not remove the need to prepare the concrete correctly.
Is EpoxyShield the same as RockSolid?
No. Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield garage floor coating is a two-part epoxy; RockSolid is a separate product line using different coating technology. The images and references on this page focus on EpoxyShield, not RockSolid flake collections.
Does EpoxyShield always need a clear topcoat?
Not every EpoxyShield garage floor kit requires a separate clear finish. A compatible clear coating can be an optional addition. The exact product instructions determine compatibility, timing and preparation.
Is epoxy the same as polyaspartic or polyurea?
No. These are different resin technologies with different application and curing requirements. A floor system may combine compatible products, such as an epoxy base and another type of topcoat. We confirm the proposed products with your estimate rather than treating every coating as epoxy.
Will a coating fix moisture coming through my concrete?
A standard coating is not a universal solution for moisture. The slab needs evaluation, and the selected system may require moisture testing or a compatible mitigation treatment. Addressing the cause matters before covering the floor.
Are coated garage floors slippery?
Any smooth floor can be slippery when wet or oily. Flakes alone do not guarantee slip resistance. Tell us how you use the garage so we can discuss texture and a compatible traction additive where appropriate.
What affects the price of a garage floor coating?
Floor area, removal of old coatings, contamination, repairs, moisture treatment, and the selected finish all affect the scope. Share your garage size and photos in the form so we can prepare a more useful estimate.
